Letter to the Editor:
Jill Street Defends Her Record

Editor,

When I read [in] the Spectrum of what Kalina Ontman wrote I was shocked (http://spectrum.mcckc.edu/archives/2008-03-12/opinions/reps.htm)and upset.

First of all Kalina only called me once and I received no email from her to answer any questions she had.

Kalina makes it sound like the District Representative and the Student Representative do not do their jobs.

Kalina does not realize what it takes to be the District Rep. Decisions have to go through the Chancellor's office after it goes through Life and Leadership office.

I am taking my position very seriously. I have made suggestions of getting emergency phones at the exit doors for any one that will need help in case there is an emergency and someone get stuck on the upper floors.

I have reported how the microwaves in the cafeteria are extremely filthy. I have made arrangements for the cafeteria to be checked out and change the prices or try and get a different vender.

Kalina has spoken about me as if I do nothing. She has no idea what it takes to be in the position I am in.

It has been known that there is a box in the Life and Leadership office with my name on it that I could receive suggestions of what the students want and need.

Also it is known I could receive emails for what the any suggestions that a change needs to be made.

Kalina’s comment: “That there is no doubt the positions to which we were elected were never intended to have any real influence.” Is not a fact! When I attend the Chancellor's meeting I do let the board know what the concern[s] of the students are.

Kalina fails to realize all the changes that need to be made do take time and patient. Patience is what I have and I stay on top of things.

The students and staff need to ignore all the bad publicity Kalina Ontman is putting on me. My promises to make changes are happening slowly.

Kalina Ontman needs to get all the facts straight and if she has a problem she needs to bring to my attention.

I feel Kalina is not a good source to be making all the acquisitions [sic] that she has made. She needs to find out all the correct details before writing what she does.
